Hey! I’ll tell you my secret, I don’t like burgers. (except mine) In fact, the only burgers I’ve ever eaten were mine! I know that I sound a bit weird as a person when saying this, but let me tell you why…
Firstly, I like to know what they’re made of and what’s in them. I always wondered for instance, what frozen burgers are made of because they have a really strange taste and look a bit like a child’s plastic food toy- while to my preference I like burgers to be good all-meaty ones, made with fresh herbs and stuff. And secondly, I have discovered THE ONE recipe for making the juiciest and flavorful beef burgers ever. No other burger recipe can compare to this one (at least so far).
The key ingredients
So, what actually makes this beef burger recipe unique and super, super tasty is the addition of grated tomato, green bell pepper, dried oregano and NO breadcrumbs. As they tend to over dry the fried/grilled burgers and flatten their taste.
I only use breadcrumbs in oven baked burgers along with some water (always) to keep them moist through the baking process. Otherwise, whether you are grilling or simply pan-fry your burgers a good quality of minced beef and the right cooking time is all you need to make them the juiciest ones.
The Greek Alternative to the all American Favorite
Now as for this Juicy Greek Beef Burger, I wanted to make a Greek copycat of an all American favorite dish like this. Meaning, I switched some favorite American burger ingredients to Greek alternative ones.
For example …
Instead of pickles, I used pan fried zucchinis. They’re sooo sweet and tasty. We absolutely love them in Greece.
Instead of a BBQ sauce, I used a spicy feta cheese sauce, made with tomato, pepper, and Greek yogurt. I do beg you to try this one as it’s simply AMAZING!
Instead of caramelized onions, I used just raw ones. After all, it’s not Greek if the ingredients are not fresh.
